  2. According to the poem, Martin Luther King is a righteous king. He stands tall and yet is humble; he faces the enemy alongside his people, not behind them. Through strife and conflict, he stays true to his dream of peace. Against all odds, he perservered with strength and determination for the realization of freedom.
One modern day problem that needs to be adressed is the distorted idea of racism in terrorism. Ever since 9/11, many people have confused muslim people with terrorists, due to the tragic event caused by muslim extremists.

  3. He is a king that stands tall and proud when others are afraid or are unsure of what to do. Martine Luther King Jr. is the kind of king that will do what's right, no matter what the consequences may be. He led a nation to believe that equality for all is a right. Don't let anyone discriminate you. You have the power to be whoever you want to be. He said that the color of your skind doesn't matter. It's what's in your heart that matters.
A modern-day problem is littering. People litter on the streets without giving it a second thought. People throw trash out of their moving cars along the freeway. Littering has to be cleaned up by someone. It isn't going to be the people littering that are going to have to clean it up. This form of disrespect doesn't help bring our society up. This only helps to bring us lower. We can't advanced if we're retreating. We newed to keep our lives clean. 8A#8

  4. According to the poem MLK is a king who doesn't sit down surrounded by luxurious things. He is a king who stands up for what he believes in and preaches peace. He is strong and doesn't let anyone tear him down. MLK is a true king, he is one who will always be remembered. Martian Luther King Jr. is a king.
A modern day problem that I believe needs to be adressed in a serious way is the problems with teens and substance abouse. Many don't think about problems like this, but especially since I am a teenager I think it is impotant that this issue gets addresed. More teens are getting adicted to alchohol and drugs everyday and they need to find help. All parents should be helping their children if they are experiencing this issue. I believe that one day we will live in a world where no one will abuse substances.

  5. The kind of "king" that MLK is according the poem is a strong yet peaceful king. He was there when everything went wrong. He believed in most when everyones hope was gone. He approached everyone with love and honesty and never hate. He never gave up on his dream and stood proud in his believes. Martin Luther King never fought back with punches or hate, he fixed it with peace and love. Even when he died, his spirit lived on.
A modern day problem that needs to be addressed in a serious way is California's water shortage. We have a plan to get the salt out of the ocean water, but we need to have families at home to save water. People take for granted the fact that we have showers to wash in, sinks to clean our dishes with and washer/ dryers to clean our clothes. Other countries almost have no clean water at all while others have none. We need to see that our water is disappearing fast and we need to save as much as we can. We should be conscience of how much water we use in a shower or while washing dishes. We need to turn of the running water when we are not sing it.

  6. According to the poem, MLK wasn't a king who ruled sitting down. He stood up for everything he believed in, and lived by his values daily. He held fast to his belief in peace and was devoted to the cause of earning back rights for African Americans that were wrongly taken away. Even when he was challenged with violence, death, and cruelty, he stood firm and always responded with peace. He used his intelligence for the better by convincing others and leading peaceful protests, and always gave love and never violence.

We need to address the issue of rights for all Americans, because they are gradually being forgotten. We are given rights to freedom of speech, freedom of choice, freedom to be educated, and life, liberty, and happiness to name a few. Every day, these rights are questioned, forgotten, and treated as privileges when they should be given freely and without question. Every person deserves these rights, as stated in the Declaration and Constitution. Depriving a person of their rights is a serious matter that needs to be resolved because they are crucial in the pursuit of a successful, happy life for all people, and to deprive them of these rights is to take away the potential for a leading a content life.

  7. According to the poem Dr. MLK is a kind of king that gets out there and leads and defends his people. He is not afraid to do what is right and stand up for that. He gets denied and beaten but he will still get back up and fight for the cause.

A modern-day problem now, well there are many of them, the economy, the war, the economy. The economy is our biggest problem right now because we are loosing money and we can not pay for what we owe and for this war that we are in. It is making life in this great nation poor and almost unmanageable. People with the best jobs losing them because companies cant keep them all and are making cuts. You see cuts every were. This is a problem because it is bringing our country to its knees! And its not going to get better. People will be paying for this for many years to come. 8A15

  8. 1. Martin Luther King Jr is the "King" of peace. He is a King who simply strives to mkae it a better place for his people, black or white. He wanted to be a leader, people who respect and know he made a difference in the world. He worked to be the person who could say he stood strong in a time of weakness. He wanted to be the "King" who could stand out in a time, when no one wanted to be noticed. He was the "King" of peace, when all there was, was violence.

    2. A modern-day problem would have to be the war between here and Iraq. Iraq set a huge impact on us on September 11, 2001. We lost confidence in our country, and people became angered and raged. Loved ones died, as heroes. But those who set this pain, live as if they have achieved something greater. From a perspective, the war is a time to get revenge, when nothing has hapened to strive for peace. We all stand here, promoting defeat against Iraq. When yes, it's true they deserve their punishment, but we need to do something else than fight.

  9. - According to the poem, MLK is not like most kings. He was a leader with hopes and dreams for his future generations. He didn't let people bring him down. Instead, he is the type of king to speak his mind, despite the effects. He wanted to be heard for who he was. Instead of most kings, he did not use war or violence. Instead, he preached peace and love. He is a kind who remained loyal and focused. He is a brave, strong, proud king.

    - A modern-day problem that needs to be adressed with in a serious way would be abortion. Abortion is a very controversal topic, especially withtin the Church. It needs to be adressed because it is a radical, dramatic thing to do. It's something that people need to be aware of and be informed about. I think people need to know the result of abortion and why it is wrong.

  10. According to this poem, Martin Luther King Jr. is not the kind of "king" who flaunts his wealth. The author was saying that he was never the type of "king" who lounged around getting fanned or anything like that. He was never rich with money, but he was always rich with hope. Dr. King was the kind of "king" who did not have to act like the leader of any group or organization. Everyone just in a way listened to him and knew they should follow him, even though he never showed off his power and he never abused it. That is the kind of "king" that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was/is according to this poem and why.
A modern-day problem that needs to be addressed in a serious way is the problem with drivers doing distracting things while operating a vehicle. Some people might drink alcohol before or while driving, text or call on a cellphone, eat or drink something that requires hand use, and/or do much more while driving. This is an important problem and could become very effective, very fast, if it is not dealt with soon. It shoud be handled seriously because in this case, when you are dealing with people from the age 16 and above, they very often have other things on their minds. So if the matter is not handled seriously, they will not take it seriously, and it might not be resolved easily. That is one modern-day problem that I believe should be addressed in a serious manner and why. #13a

  11. Martin Luther King Jr. isn't a king surrounded by luxury, soft cushions and fans. MLK was a king that stood proud of his color and race and didn't respond to violence with violence. He acted similarly to the way Ghandi did. They were both kings of peace who responded with love and acted as Jesus did. MLK is a king of love because he followed Jesus' example.
A modern day problem that needs to be addressed in a serious way are the budget cuts. This crisis leaves states with a tiny bit of money for a lot of things. Because the state governments have huge debts to pay and can't pay them all off, our state is trying to generate revenue in any way possible. In this way, we want to be able to gradually pay off those debts so that we are able to run our state operations (schools, government and state offices, etc.). Budget cuts have affected schools drastically. The public schools receive money from the state in order to run them. Now, the state doesn't have as much money as they did years ago to run all school operations. One example is that schools are being forced to cut back by laying off teachers/staff, which results in larger classroom sizes, and thus less learning.

  12. 1. The first king he talks about is a king like any other king ruling a land and sitting in the laps of luxury. But for the second king, the second king is martin luther king jr. showing the difference between him and the other king. the poem told that when everyine rejected him for his skin, he just kept smileing and continue what he was doing nomatter what he was doing.

    2. one of the main problems with our society is the fact of our econemy. scince most of our money is going somewhere else, have of our companies have gone bankedrupt. I belive the problem is not the presedent but the econemy itself and how people are loosing money to early.

  13. In this poem MLK is a king that rules over the civil rights movement. He stand up for what he believes in and he never backs down. He doesn't use violence as a weapon. He uses the power of love to overcome obstacles. In his kingdom he wants to see all human beings love each other. He rules a over peace and justice.

I think a modern-day problem that needs to be adressed today is bullying. Bullying can happen anywhere and at anytime. It can happen to adults and it can happen to students. Bullying can't be solved with lunch detentions or jail. It has to be solved with love. If you don't love your neighbor you shouldn't expect them to love you back. You need to love and care for your enemies and they will do the same to you.

  14. In this poem it refers or contrasts Martin Luther King to the "king" as someone who does not sit and get waited on but stands strong and sticks up for what it is right. It also refers to him as someone who did not listen to the historical, harsh words that where said to African Americans but as a man who, "stood his ground." We remember historical kings as people who were waited on but in this poem we see get a different perspective for a king who did the waiting on.
Today a serious problem that needs to be addressed is the problem that the people of Haiti. The earthquake that has happened in the past week has left the country in ruble. We need to help those in need and address how horrible these people are living and we need to act on it to get the country back to where they what they had.

  15. 1. Martin Luther King is a different kind of king than the rest. He doesnt just sit around and tell people what to do. He takes action. Ie stands strong and tall. He preaches peace not violence, love not hate. He is a true king.

    2. Poverty in our county is something that we need to adress. There are many people in our copunrtywho are struggling. It all starts with one person who starts drugs or drops out. Then they have kids and they start to get into drugs or something else then they drop out. This goes on and on. We need to try to keep kids in school and have them succed and go to collage. To stop this.

  16. According to the poem Martin Luther King is a king who stands for peace. When others use acts of violence to convey their message, MLK uses love. He challenged other's anger with peaceful sit-ins and meetings. He knew that if you fight violence with violence the feud may never end. MLK decided retaliation was never the answer and instead spread his beliefs with only hope; hope for a safer life, for an equal community, and hope for a better tomorrow.

A modern day problem that needs to be addressed is peoples' unease concerning diversity. We all fear the unknown, but that is no excuse to exclude someone who may be mildly unconventional. Someone who is different from you may seem unusual, but they may be very intersting once you spend time with them. Most people never even attempt to get to know different people with atypical cultures, backgroungs, or beliefs. This impractical fear needs to be acknowledged and changed.

  17. Martin Luther King Jr. is a king that actually does something. He was not a king who wanted luxuries such as money and materialistic items. All he wanted was the end of racial discrimination and peace between people. He was a leader, but not a ruler and dictator. MLK Jr. was a pacifist who only wanted the best for his fellow African-Americans. He was the one who gave others courage to stand up to the "white" people and make a change.

A modern day problem that needs to be dealt with is child labor in other countries. It is a cruel and terrible act that is happening right now. Young children are being forced to work in dangerous places such as factories. Many kids get injured or even killed. They work for around ten hours a day. This needs to be dealt with because all children need to be children! Kids need to go out and play and live a carefree life, not worry about how much money they are scrapping up for their families. I hope that someone will do something about this because no person deserves to live such a brutal life.

  20. The kind of King Martin Luther King Jr is in the poem is an affective leader. He doesn't sit on his throne, and live a cushioned lifestyle. No, he acts, and makes a difference by acting, and supporting people in troubled times. He fights for the rights, and to the people who get beat up everyday, he is a hero.

A problem in this world is Climate CHange. IT is real and is affecting us, because we are destroying the planet that we live on. It is important to stop it, because if we ruin the planet, we ruin it for the people after us, and if it keeps getting warmer, things could go extinct. It is very troublesome, and we need to fix this problem.

  21. Martin Luther King is a king that dosen't need meterial things. He is a king that wants to lead his people to the freedom they deserve. He is a king that does not need to fight a war to win what he wants and should have. Martin is a king that is a great influence, and should infulence all world leaders to be like him.

A serious problem that needs to be addressed in a serious way is terrorism. This is a serious problem because it it causing racism which Martin had to fight to restore. It is taring people apart, and needs to be delt with. Hopefully leaders can solve it peacefully like Martin did. 8B#11

  22. Martin Luther King Jr. was a peaceful, proud king leading a march to his goal. He did not sit around hoping his dream would suddenly happen. Instead, he used his courage and bravery to fight to reach what he wanted for everyone. Martin Luther King stood up proud and tall for what he believed, encouraging everyone in his path. Although he was the enemy of many and had to face harassment, Martin Luther King Jr. never gave up, no matter what.
A modern-day problem that needs to be addressed is animal abuse. It needs to be addressed in a serious matter because many animals and pets are neglected and abused everyday. They are innocent and helpless against our cruel actions. Although it is illegal, it doesn't stop people from mistreating these creatures. I think this is a major problem that needs to be addressed because it is heartless, yet it happens everyday and people get away with it.

A modern day problem that needs to be adressed in a serious way is the economy. Over time we have seen our economy slowly being desrtoyed but yet we havent done enough to get back. unfortunatley nobody can really stand up and change this issue like MLK did.

  24. 1. According to the poem, Dr. King is a peaceful king. A king of wisdom and a king who sees his goals and follows his goals. He is described as a king who knows how to use the weapon that is not a weapon, nonviolence. He is a king who after countless setbacks will stand above others. Dr. King is a the kind of king who used the American's violence to make them look bad and to help his cause.

    2. A modern day problem that needs to be adressed in a serious way is poverty and murder. Many people in the United states live in poverty, are poor, or live on the streets. We need to help these people. There are wasted lives out there that could be helping make the world a better place, but instead we don't extend our hands to them and therefore we are not making the world a better place. All men were created equal. Just because they may live a life nobody wants to live, doesn't mean we can't make their life as it should be, equal to ours.

  25. In this poem the kind of king they are according to is the peaceful kind. MLK was a king of peace. Whenever there was conflict, he acted kindly. they don't mean the king on a thrown or king of business etc., Dr.King was the king of peace. This poem is showing how you can be your own king of peace, happiness and love. To be a king of peace doesn't mean you muse have strong power or lots of money at all.
I think a modern day issue that needs to be addressed is health care. There are many problems with HC. People who don't work and who aren't even legal here get free HC. The people who are legal and do work have to struggle to get it. This problem needs to be dealt with immediately.

A modern day problem that needs to be adressed is the death penalty and abortion. I believe that life should be preserved at all stages no matter what, if a mistake or a crime commited. Life is sacred and some people value their own lives but will throw away others. This problem needs to be adressed and have laws against it so we will not be disrupting God's plan for us.

  27. Martin Luther King Junior is the kind of king who stands tall, strong, and proud. He always fought for what he knew was right and he never backed down. He always stood up for his beliefs and never cowarded away from them. Mlk was the kind of king who used his power and voice for the right reasons. He didn't bask in luxury like most kings, partly because he was African-American and he wasn't even granted those rights. Also because he wanted to start something and end something. He wanted to start peace and end the harsh treatment of blacks.

A modern-day problem that needs to be addressed today is teenage bullying. Everyday, kids get physical and emotionally scarred because of other childrens issues. People get fed up and kill themselves from excessive bullying, and there is no reason for it in the first place. We were all created equal, and no one person should be put below another. Cliques in schools commonly single out others which is a form of bullying. It lowers self-esteem and can do much more. People bully because they feel bad about themselves and need someone else to feel worse. But there has been extreme cases to where it can be life-threatening, etc. Bullying needs to stop, and middle-school and high-school kids need to realize that everybody is different and we were all put on this earth to be our own unique selves and nobody should interrupt that. Everyone is equal.

  28. The poem describes what type "king" that Martin Luther King Jr. is that he's not like ordinary kings. He doesn't sit there and watch his race being bullied over and over again until they couldn't stand it anymore. he was the type of king that stood up for what he believed and didn't stand down. He stood strong until the end.

One, out of the many, modern-day problems that needs to be addressed in a serious way is global poverty. Here in the United states, we have had to decrease our spending by a little bit for most and we think that that hurt us really bad. But, until you see what the rest of the world is like you shouldn't be complaining. About half of the world(that's over 3 billion people!) can only live on less than $2.50 per day. We can spend that easily just on a bag of candy! Without money, parents did not have the capability of sending themselves or their children to school. Around one billion people entered the 21st century unable to read, write, or even sign their own names with the lack of education. Out of the total of what the world spends on weapons every year, only one percent was needed to put every child in a school around the globe, but it never happened. And lastly, one out of every two children lives in poverty, which is over one billion children. Roughly, 640 million children live without an adequate shelter, 400 million don't have access to safe water, and 270 million have no access to any health aids. And in 2003, 10.6 million children died before they reached the age of five. This comes to an average of 29,000 children deaths per day. Now, hopefully, you can see why poverty is such a major issue in today's modern world. It has always been a problem and probably will be for many centuries to come. We can do so many things to address it, but most of us just ignore this call for help.

    1) The kind of king Martin Luther King was according to this poem was a king who stood tall and proud not surrounded by luxury and fans. He stood strong and preached peace and love. This king fought for peace and rights.

    2) A modern problem in need of being addressed seriously is the problem of national debt. People continue spending money they do not have and this must be discouraged. The current national debt is twelve trillion dollars. That is one million multiplied by one million. This is very serious and is affecting our nation as a whole. This needs to be addressed and hopefully ceased.

  30. Dr. King is a peaceful king in the poem. He is loving and accepting, even when the white man had been keeping him down! Above all though, Dr. King is depicted as a proud king, standing for what he believes in, no matter what happens.

No matter what the Church says about it, a serious problem that needs to be addressed is the issue of gay rights. They are put down by Christian fanatics and are not allowed to persue their love in a legal manner. They are subject to hateful slander and jeering. Old men from a dying generation are creating homophobic rules bathed in old traditions and fear of change. They, however, are people too. They love, they laugh, they act just as we do and its time we gave them the rights and respect they deserve. We can start by accepting them and treating them as equals. Then we can act legally to give them the right to marry.

  31. 1. Martin Luther King wasn't the type of king you see in movies and read about in stories, but a king that has meaning. When people put him down, he stood strong. When people initiated violence, he stood there smiling, and resisting. White people tried to oppress the colored, but MLK did not stand for this, no way. When whites killed him, he went down proud.
    2. A modern day problem today is cyber bullying. This needs to be addressed because kids are being bullied over the internet, texting, and email, and they can't get away from it. It leads to sadness, depression, and suicide since it gets so bad. Kids are careless when they're not face to face with who they are bullying. Kids all over need to realize that it's not ok to bully at all, and they need to consider the feelings of others.

  33. Martin Luther King Junior was a type of king that didn't sit surrounded by luxury and power. He is noth the king who puts himself above others. He has always viewed himself as the same as all the other African-Americans that were fighting for their freedom. He did not use his power or fight back, but he chose the non-violence path. MLK put his life in danger for all of the others because he truly believed that he was destined to do what he did for all of the blacks.
A modern-day problem that needs to be addressed in a serious way is healthcare. Around 15 percent of people in the United States aren't insured, which presents a problem. Too many people can't afford healthcare due to it's expensive price. Many people out there can't afford healthcare and get sick with a serious condition or get hurt, go to the hospital, and have a large debt to pay off. The government needs to start paying for that 15 percent of people that aren't insured.

    2. One modern-day problem that needs to be addressed in a serious way is, warfare in general. War is impervious, it has no winner, only losers. Dr.King knew what he was talking about, he knew that war had no winner, and he solved a massive problem through peace.

  36. In this poem, Dr. King is not the type of king that sits around getting the luxuries of life. In this poem Dr. King is the type of king that stands up for what is right. He stands up for peace, love, and equality. He turns the other cheek with his nonviolent actions that get the reaction of violence from others. He stands tall when others are hurtful and violent.
Abortion needs to be addressed in a serious way because it is a very serious issue that is one of the most controversial as well. As Catholics, we believe that life begins at conception. When a baby is aborted, or killed, he or she can feel it. There are many teen and even adults that get pregnant and think they can not handle the pressure and responsibility that come with a human child, but killing an innocent human being is not right. If you can not handle the responsibility, then give the baby up for adoption. Also, it is violation the rights of the unborn child. As people, we have unalienable right, rights that cannot be taken away, those rights are: LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Among those is life, which that baby or unborn child has the right to. That fetus can not speak out and say that it does not want to be killed, the decision lies solely with the person who is carrying that baby. Think, if you were that unborn child going to be aborted, would you think about abortion when put in that situation? How would you feel?

    2. A modern day problem that needs to be addressed today is the problem with bullies. Some students are even afraid to go to school or hang out with friends because they are afraid that a bully will pick on them, emberrass them, or do anything else that could hurt them or make them look bad in front of their friends. this issue should be addressed because the bully factor isn't just taking someones lunch money anymore, but also racial jokes, cyber bullying, physical bullying, verbal bullying, and many more types of abuse.

  38. Paragraph One:

According to the poem, Doctor Martin Luther King Junior was a king of action. While usual kings commanded others, this king demanded freedom. With love on his side, peace was his only weapon. He has taught us all to never give in and to fight for what you believe in. I believe that a sufficient saying for the teachings of Dr. King's life is to "Kill them with smiles."(coolnsmart.com)

    Paragraph Two:

I believe that a modern day problem that needs to be addressed in a serious way is abortion. In my opinion, abortion is wrong and must be stopped. It should be addressed because abortion IS murder and should be illegal. taking away the life of an innocent, unborn human being is cruel and sick. There is no excuse for a deed to take place. Abortion is NEVER the only option left. (religioustolerence.org)
